The Social (Media) Butterfly 

Hi there, I'm Jenna!

 

I am a senior Integrated Marketing Communication major at Slippery Rock University specializing in New Media. From a young age I enjoyed reading, writing, and being creative, so the Communications field piqued my interest. As I learned more about the field, I became more interested in the new media sector. I love the idea of being able to create and distribute content that can reach people near and far using social media. Hence my interest in this class.

 

Throughout my years at Slippery Rock I have learned a lot, not only about the Communications field, but myself as well. This blog will allow me to take what I've learned and use it to help me spread my wings and become a social (media) butterfly. My blog name reflects what I aspire to be in the future, an insightful, innovative and successful social media marketing manager.

 

Social media often has a negative stigma attached to it. You hear stories about people being bullied online or see it firsthand in the comment section under a person's picture or video. I hope to help break down that negative stigma through what I choose to post. My goal is to create a positive digital environment where people can come together to be entertained and informed.

 

Although I'm not one to tweet every day or post a new picture every week, I love using social media to stay in the know. NBC News and Buzzfeed are two media outlets I use to keep me informed. I grew up watching NBC and find it to be a trustworthy source, so I stick with it. As for Buzzfeed, it never fails to lead me to a new, interesting article or video on any given topic.
